![]() ![]() In Outer Wilds youll have to understand the planets and. In Subnautica youll have to learn about the biomes and (sometimes) predatory wildlife. In order to progress it is imperative to figure out how the world youre in works. You dont really know anything about the place youre in. Furthermore, the CRT-screens and VHS level of retro-futurism always display a unique vision the developers had for the world and its style, and it works beautifully. In both games you start in an unknown world / solar system. The style combines with the narrative to create a world that is enjoyable to float around in. Breathedge's messed-up setting and corporation domination of space instantly evoke the best parts of games like Outer Worlds and Journey to the Savage Planet. Whereas the humor can be hit or miss, one area that Breathedge succeeds at exceedingly is in its style, the retro-Soviet look of the game makes it stand out from so many other science fiction games and is reminiscent of the sort of retro-future style that BioShock's famous creator of Rapture Andrew Ryan might employ. It is a subtle but effective setup and joke that works so well within its events and the setting's absurd nature. Later on in the narrative, the player can find various scribblings on a chalkboard trying to make sense of the chicken's ability to survive anything, equations which are summed up with question marks. About deep sea too, called 'under the waves'. Its not a terrible game, but like Subnautica, it does loose its charm after the first playthrough. I like to think that the game Elite: dangerous is a good continue-on game from the ending of subnautica, it has multiple water planets and transgovs and a whole space flight system, the planetary exploration of atmospheric planets is locked behind the recent expansion and the exploration aspect for both atmospheric and non-atmospheric planets. Beyond Blue, Endless Ocean and Endless Ocean Blue World. All these games are scuba diving games like Subnautica, but set on earth and not survival. It is more space exploration of an ancient civilization without the crafting, but there is a big overlap of Subnautica and Outer Wilds fans. For instance, Man is accompanied on his journey not only by the Spacesuit AI but also by a seemingly immortal chicken that survives his ship's explosive decompression. Its not quite as good as Subnautica, but it does scare the crap out of you when you turn a corner and theres a spider the size of a garage staring you in the face. If you have not, you should check out Outer Wilds. The parts of Breathedge that lean into the absurd are often the funniest aspects of its humor. ![]()
